The United Nations has reported that acute malnutrition in Gaza has been accelerating in the northern part of Palestine as Israel has sent a delegation to Qatar for new truce proposals on a ceasefire with an exchange of hostages and prisoners from Hamas. The UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees has discovered this as they have reported that one in three children under the age of two in northern Gaza are currently acute malnourished, putting Israel under a lot of pressure from the increasing famine. The delegation in Qatar is being led by David Barnea, who is the current Director of Mossad. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is wishing to discuss the proposal before speaking with Hamas with his security cabinet, believing that they are “unrealistic.” It is also reported that Israel is planning to launch an offensive attack on Rafah in southern Gaza.

This article feels devastating because of how badly and desperately people in the Gaza Strip are in dire need of food, especially children. It is also very concerning that Prime Minister Netanyahu does not sound very convinced in being offered any deal to put an end to the war in the Gaza Strip and is actually ready to lead an attack on Rafah. This kind of strategy sounds reckless and dangerous and could lead to a lot of civilian casualties if this conflict is not handled peacefully and properly. The United Nations need to find a way to provide humanitarian aid to the victims in the Gaza Strip and make sure they are safe so they can rebuild Gaza when the war is done.

In International Relations, we have discussed inter-governmental organizations, which are multinational political unions where negotiated power is delegated to an authority by governments of member states. The United Nations is the largest IGO in the world and is doing everything they can to bring peace and stability to the world, including victims in the Gaza Strip. We have also discussed non-recognized states, which are political entities that have declared themselves to be sovereign, but are missing formal international recognition. Palestine has declared itself to be a national state, but Israel refuses to believe it. The conflict in the Gaza Strip is making it very hard for Palestinians to be given sovereignty.
