Despite a six week ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, Israeli forces have killed at least four Palestinians and wounded several others in recent strikes. One man died in a drone attack in Bani Suheila in southern Gaza, in a zone controlled by Israeli forces beyond the so-called “yellow line”. Elsewhere, a child in northern Gaza City was killed when ordnance left behind by Israeli troops exploded, and several other children were wounded. In addition to the deaths, civil defence teams recovered the bodies of eight members of one family whose home in Maghazi camp had previously hit. The Gaza Government Media Office says that since the ceasefire began, 582 bodies have been retrieved and over 9,500 people remain missing under the rubble. Meanwhile, the armed group Palestine Islamic Jihas says it recovered the body of an Israeli captive in Nuseirat camp; under the ceasefire deal, Israel must return Palestinian bodies in exchange. In the west Bank, Israeli forces launched raids and settler violence surged. resulting in arrests and the killing of a 20-year-old law student in Dier Jarir.
This article is important because it displays both the side of Israel and Palestine very well and doesn’t seem to display any bias. In the article it talks about how Israeli forces have killed Palestinians even when there was a cease fire. It interests me how Israel seemed to be the one fighting for a cease fire but after they continued to use drones and fight Hamas and Palestine. I question why Israel does this because they have just bettered relations with countries who were mad at them for their war with Palestine. Israel just got a trade deal with Germany where they are getting tank parts and anti tank weapons, but I wonder if these drone strikes and deaths will make them change their mind.
Israel could respond to this event by stopping their drone strikes and continuing the cease fire Or Israel could keep attacking Palestinians which would weaken their view in the eyes of the international community. Palestine could respond to this event by calling for aid and defence against Israel.
This article connects to what we talked about in class because Israel rejected Palestine’s claims of sovereignty when they used a drone to strike down the people in their territory.
