Airstrikes on pro-Iran militia base in Iraq kill at least two

This article discusses a development from earlier today in the joint attack against Iran from the United States and Israel. This attack was launched as a “preemptive strike” as described by Israel with the support of current president Donald Trump. This was done in order to effectively prevent these countries or groups within these countries from coming to the benefit of the Palestinian people. What this article discusses however is that the US-Israel strikes have also killed two people and injured several more with a strike in Iraq on what is considered to be a “pro-Iran” militia base.

This is a very interesting article and situation given the current times. First it is important to note that this doesn’t seem terribly surprising all things considered. The United States has historically considered the Middle Eastern and Northern African region to be somewhere in which they can kind of go in and be the more advanced group of people. This recent activity has pretty much proved this to be consistent in the present based on comments about trying to do anything to prevent Iran from ever getting a nuclear weapons system or program. Now this is a little odd given that when it comes to Russia and Ukraine the US is trying to stay out of it but here they are willing to directly engage but that’s neither here nor there.

In terms of stakeholder responses I think that pretty much the outcome of this situation depends on what Iran and now Iraq do in response. For example, if Iran were to cave and sign some kind of agreement that would prevent them from ever having a nuclear weapons program then that would probably be the end of it. However, I think more likely is that this leads to a more direct and physical response as this is not the first time the US has done this in recent years and historically Iran and Iraq just aren’t very big fans of the US.

In terms of class concepts this obviously goes into conflict but it also goes into a bit of interdependence as I think it is likely to see some of the countries in this region specifically Iran and Iraq begin to create coalitions are agreements that will likely lead to a larger conflict developing over time, now this make show up first as support for the Palestinians perhaps but could also lead to responding strikes against Israel.
