This article discusses a recent advancement in the struggle between Israel and the Palestinian people as well as providing some other details that are not necessarily headline facts but are still very much relevant to the issue. First, Israel has begun to use drone strikes to specifically target police operations with a total of six police officers being killed between drone strikes on two police outposts. Additionally, the Palestinian people are in need of significant aid but are unable to get it because Israel is preventing the majority of aid trucks from entering into the area. As well, many are in need of medical help they would likely have to receive out of the country but cannot get because their exit is blocked.
This article is extremely important for educating the reader because while it does cover the headline information about those being targeted and killed, it also includes other information regarding the lack of aid flowing into the area. In terms of the situation itself I think it is clear that this is no longer about the piece of land it was originally and has at this point moved much closer towards being an ethnic cleanse taking into consideration the lack of aid, the violations of ceasefires, and the targeting of hospitals and schools. This is supported by claims by Israel that they will play no part in the eventual rebuilding of Gaza.
I think that at this point the actions of the main stakeholders are pretty clear, it seems obvious Israel will continue their efforts until they reach their goal whatever that truly is, and Palestinians seem likely to continue to try to defend themselves while making peace offerings. I think the bigger question is what the other stakeholders will do, for example the US gives a lot of aid to Israel each year, however recently polling suggests Israel has fallen out of favor by US citizens in favor of the Palestinians.
This connects to various concepts and class themes, the most obvious being rights and justice. What Israel has done at this point is very obviously a violation of human rights for the Palestinian people as they are directly and actively targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure. The question this raises then is will other states step in to protect the Palestinians as can be argued for R2P, or will they all continue to standby in witness until Israel ultimately achieves its goal.
