On the border between Sudan and Ethiopia on one of Sudan’s military posts Sudanese military sources say that six Sudanese soldiers were killed by Ethiopian military forces. Although Ethiopia denies these attacks, Sudan became public about these attacks on facebook saying that this attack resulted in not only loss of lives but heavy military equipment as well. The Ethiopian government spokesperson said Ethiopia did not carry out any attacks on Sudan. He said in a speech on a public Ethiopian broadcast system that Ethiopia does not have any interest in a military agenda that carries out attacks on sovereign states.
If these attacks were to really have happened I do not see why Ethiopian government officials would have denied these attacks. If they were the ones who carried out the attacks then obviously they were trying to show some militaristic power. It is hard to tell from the article whether Sudan will carry out a counter attack of their own but I do not think that this will start some kind of war. Yes Sudan is mad at Ethiopia but it is not like they bombed a whole city. I think that if it is confirmed that Ethiopia was the ones who committed this attack they were trying to show militaristic power.
By Ethiopia attacking Sudan military forces they were trying to express their forms of power. They were trying to express a form of short term powers that include the power of military forces. They did this to prove to Sudan that they have a strong military and are not afraid to carry out attacks. Although they denied these attacks since Sudan believes it was Ethiopia, Sudan will have a different view on Ethiopia’s military. Ethiopia also could have been expressing territorial power by showing how easy it would be to control part of Sudan’s territory.
