The Pakistan Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Asim Iftikhar, urges his position that the world needs to communicate with the Taliban Government, because of this Pakistan welcomes the second round of talks between the US and Taliban since Afghanistan was taken over earlier this year. US representative Tom West will be in attendance of the talks, stating US communication with the Taliban Government would be vital as the agenda for the talks include: counterterrorism, as well as humanitarian assistance, and economic relief. The Taliban Government has recently called for international help regarding the humanitarian crisis as the US has frozen over $9.5 billion dollars in the Afghan central bank assets. The topic regarding reopening foreign embassies in Kabul and the frozen assets would be a top priority in the discussion.

My thoughts on the article is that Pakistan’s urgency for talks with the US and the Taliban Government stems from a fear of too many Afghan refugees relying on their country, as they already have nearly 3.5 million refugees, Pakistan now realizes now more than ever the need for international communication with the Taliban Government and the need for humanitarian assistance. Obviously the move by the US to freeze assets and the EU stopping aid to Afghanistan was a good thing when the Taliban took over, (as no one knew how they would be governing people) however now, this has caused the country to nearly collapse, affecting the lives of many innocent people. Honestly I am not fully sure how the international community can help Afghanistan citizens without completely dumping money or giving power to the Taliban.

This article relates to the rational belief of the Taliban itself in regards why the Taliban seeks power. Looking at the Taliban government and it’s motives from a classical realist perspective, then many can say the Taliban seeks power because of humans natural greedy instinct and that the Taliban doing anything necessary to get said power shows this. Since humans make up the Taliban Government then the Government will reflect these instincts.
