Only 6 years after having locations in Kazakhstan, McDonalds is leaving the country because of supply chain issues because of the Russia-Ukraine war. This pulling out was announced by the corporation on January 5th. McDonalds had already pulled out of Russia since the start of the war. The only country that was supplying Kazakhstan with beef was Russia, and with the war, Kazakhstan wasn’t able to obtain it. And there has been an obvious scarcity of beef since November of this year. This is also despite the fact that Kazakhstan has a strong cattle tradition, and has been importing various cattle breeds and expertise in an attempt to grow their cattle industry. That was to no avail, however, because McDonalds vowed to return later with a local name.
I don’t mean to, but this article is kind of funny. And I also didn’t realize the different disruptions that the Russia-Ukraine war caused. I also didn’t realize that McDonald’s expansion was so recent. But overall, no opinion. Just interesting, because I don’t really know anything about this part of the world, despite the largeness of it.
This article is related to class because it’s part of my assigned region.
