On January 27 of this year, the leaders of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan have met in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, in order to determine the border of a 1,400 km stretch of land that’s remained disputed ever since the fall of the Soviet Union. Both parties agree that this is a historic event, and that hopefully this will lead to peace in the region. The leader of Uzbekistan, Mirziyoyev, says that relations between the two countries have “never been this good.” And along with the good relations that will come and lead to this agreement, there’s been major economic development between the two countries. Over $1.6 billion dollars in contracts between companies belonging to one of the two countries have been made, and its hopeful for that number to rise to $2 billion in the coming years.

Agreements like these are honestly pretty rare, I think its very good for these countries to do this. Very based. I don’t really know the history of this part of the world, but it seems that ever since the fall of the Soviet Union, and even during its rule, there’s been conflict between the countries. But I’m happy that these countries are actually working together, and making agreements. Since I don’t hear much about this part of the world, I’ll have to follow up later this year to see if anything changes. All in all, very good.

This article pertains to class because this issue is between two countries, in my assigned part of the world.
