Over the past few days India has hosted world leaders from all over to participate in the G20 New delhi summit. The summit has created many problems within New Delhi as many streets, schools, and offices have been closed in order to “escort” the VIP’s of the world through New Delhi and into the brand new venue built solely for this event. The backlash for the closings within New Delhi have spread to street vendors who have been forced out of the street and away from their usual business locations, many of the street vendors have no income source besides their stalls and are struggling to stay afloat these past few days. Lastly as Modi has hosted the summit many have found that he has restricted many of the religious and ethnic sites that are important for many of the minorities within India, like the sikhs and muslims.

The article is important to us and to those in India as it shows the benefits and cons of this “world” summit. It also shows how great the divide is in India and how many are split between each other due to religion, ethnicity, or income. What the summit does provide for India is a larger political influence on the region and the ability to showcase India to the watching world. The end result of the G20 summit was a increase in the crackdown of fossil fuels and acts against using global changing fuels. The summit also allowed the African Union to join the summit as a official member. And lastly as an important act the summit created a new organization called the Global Biofuel Alliance(GBA) to bring together biofuel companies in order to create a “greener future”.

This is connected to class as we see yet another summit/meeting that evolves world powers but ultimately doesn’t get anything significant done with the set amount of time given. It also backs up the possibility that India, although it seems stable, might be crumbling under itself through numerous religious and ethnic tussles between the government and Indian minorities. The effects of a country like India crumbling could destroy much of the rice economy in the world as well as many overseas jobs. Although not immediately a pressing concern for the U.S it is a good idea for us and others to continue to observe India’s delicate situation as its need for stability grows into a questionable situation.
