Ever since the Taliban took over Afghanistan in 2021, the new government has been searching to expand it’s relationship with other countries. This goal took a major step when the new Chinese ambassador, Zhao Sheng, came to Kubal to meet with the Taliban. The ambassador came to visit at the Presidential Palace and discussed the possibility of Afghanistan the China creating closer ties with one another. This is the first elected ambassador to visit the Taliban since they took control of Afghanistan. Other countries have sent charge d’affaires, which are diplomats who take place of an absent ambassador. China’s embassy had urged the international community to develop a working relationship with the new government, and to learn from what happened in Afghanistan. The embassy claims that the double standards on fighting terrorism need to be eliminated, and sanctions against the Taliban need to be lifted. The Taliban has not earned any foreign recognition from other countries, and Beijing did not indicate that foreign recognition was discussed in the meeting. However, a Taliban spokesperson said that they hope this meeting will allow other countries to come forward and interact with the Taliban.

This meeting shows the Taliban’s urgency to gain some kind of global recognition. A lot of countries do not like the Taliban or do not agree with what they do, so many countries are refusing to accept them as a permanent established government. The Taliban needs international relationships to stay afloat in the global community. They do not have enough resources or strength to survive on their own. Building a relationship with China is a very huge deal for the Taliban. China is the second largest economy in the world, and building an alliance with them would benefit Afghanistan tremendously. Gaining access to all of China’s resources would help the Taliban run a more stable government and keep up with other international powers. This first alliance with China could also lead other countries to follow. And the Taliban government could continue to grow stronger and bigger. Bringing in the Chinese ambassador is a great way for the Taliban command some foreign recognition and begin building relationships with other countries.

This event has a huge impact on international relations. Many nations think they deserve to be considered a state. They want to be more powerful and gain more control over their government. It is something that many nations have fought for and are still fighting for, including the Taliban. The Taliban is trying to gain global recognition in order to become a sovereign state. Without recognition from other global superpowers, they can not be considered a sovereign state. They want to be a sovereign state so they can start to conduct some foreign policy and build relationships with other countries.
