The article examines how the ongoing conflict between the United States, Israel, and Iran is becoming harder to resolve as escalation intensifies. Despite claims by Donald Trump and US officials that Iran’s military capabilities have been significantly weakened, recent events suggest otherwise. Iran has demonstrated continued operational strength, including launching long-range missiles and targeting sensitive sites in Israel, indicating resilience despite leadership losses such as Ali Khamenei.

Uncertainty surrounds Iran’s leadership, with Mojtaba Khamenei reportedly taking power but remaining largely unseen, complicating diplomatic engagement. Meanwhile, Iran’s distrust of negotiations has deepened after past talks were followed by military strikes. Escalatory rhetoric has intensified, including US ultimatums over the Strait of Hormuz and Iranian threats to retaliate regionally.

Although a temporary pause in US strikes has created a potential opening for diplomacy, the broader trajectory remains dangerous. Both sides face strategic limitations: Iran risks appearing weak if it de-escalates, while the US and Israel cannot secure decisive victory through airpower alone. As a result, options for ending the war are narrowing, raising the risk of prolonged and more destructive conflict.

I think that this article shows that as tensions between the United States and Iran continue to increase or prolong. The pathway to reconciliation and future cooperation is being too narrow and dwindling. Although strikes are coming to a short pause the window of diplomacy, I believe, is beginning to close. Iran has lost trust in the US words, as the past negotiations were met with military attacks. This conflict could last longer than both sides anticipated and erode any opportunity for diplomatic conversations and negotiations.

The countries involved are the US and Israel and Iran. These countries are in the midst of a military conflict. Iran doesn’t see that in the near future negations will be possible as the US has betrayed their trust multiple times.  The US is in a confusing institution because of this conflict, although it is potentially helping them reach their goals with Iran. The conflict has gone on longer than anticipated, because of domestic worry and economic effects within the United States.

This issue is connected to national interest because having little to no relationship with Iran is bad for the US economy and security as Iran is developing nuclear energy. As well as Diplomacy weakening as Iran is beginning to increasingly distrust the US.  This issue not only affects the countries directly involved in the conflict and attacks but the gulf states and regional neighbors that economies rely heavily on Iranian oil and natural gas. This conflict is causing regional instability, economically and domestically.
