Of my four articles, I found the article on Morocco’s re-admittance into the African Union was the most interesting. It has been 33 years since Morocco was in the AU and is now granted a part in the Union. The re-admittance happened despite Morocco still claiming the occupied Western Sahara. There are other African countries that are also disputing claim for this area. I feel that it is great that Morocco was accepted since the countries can now all have equal say on issues that affect the Africa continent as a whole. Though my biggest issue is that, with the re-admittance, the issue on the claim for Western Sahara is still up for grabs. Like in other parts of the world, there are certain parts of the world that are of more value then others, mainly due to resources found in that area. In Africa the Western Sahara is being disputed and is causing conflict and tension between the African countries. I don’t understand why these countries don’t allow those in the disputed area to have their own independence. I understand their own country would benefit from the resources but still, you aren’t gaining anything from conflict and the area is still being disputed. You might have a more peaceful way in finding a way to work with the independent area once you allow those in the area to get their independence. I feel more conflicts can be avoided if countries give the indigenous people of the disputed area a chance to be independent. Many areas have been brought to ruins due to the fighting over the area. Aleppo is an example of this. It is now in ruins from the conflict between Syrian regime and rebels. What if that were to happen in Western Sahara? Maybe, there would be less devastation and deaths if they were given independence. Especially since Morocco annexed them to begin with. They are not actually a part of Morocco. They were annexed by Moroccco. Now the indigenous people are seeking freedom and I feel they should be granted this.
