Most people feel that when they get into a position of power they are invisible and they won’t receive any consequence. One of these people was the former Nigerian governor, Bala James Ngilari. While he was governor he inappropriately used public funds to purchase 25 vehicles for himself. While it would have been fine if he had used his own money, he decided to use funds from taxes on the Nigerian people. Last year the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission charged him with corruption and until recently it his case has been ongoing. Most people in Nigeria didn’t follow his case since the convict and jailing of a governor or a powerful leader is rare. I find this very appalling. How can it be rare for someone powerful to receive no punishment for his wrongdoing. I understand there are some that get away with it do due their influential power but there has to be some corrupt leaders that get their just punishment so they are an example for others. They show other leaders that even though they have power they can receive the same consequences as any other citizen. Also it will show the people that their government is trying to be as just and fair as it can be. This is important since the Nigerian government actions can slowly allow the Nigerian people to trust their government once again. They can trust that a corrupt leader will be convicted just as Bala James Ngilari,
