No Clear End to the Boko Haram [Analysis]

Since Mohammed Yusuf’s death in 2009, Boko Haram has launched a violent campaign against the state of Nigeria. They’ve gone as far as kidnapping children, burning down villages, and going on killing sprees. Their motive is to create an islamic state out of Nigeria, but they do not have many supporters. They’re very successful because Nigeria is incapable of handling them; lack of funds, and corruptness by some of the generals are a few reasons of why the Boko Haram haven’t been stamped out yet. Also, the Boko Haram have apparent strategic locations for their strongholds; they’ve chosen locations such as thick forests, this gives the Nigerian army no clear idea of where the enemy lies. All in all, the Boko Haram remain because Buhari’s generals are corrupt, funds are not great for the nigerian forces, and neither are their strategic plans dealing with insurgency.
