Upset in Uganda

In Uganda they have recently done away with the age limit for presidents. This means that now their current president which is Yoweri Museveni will be able to run for his sixth term in 2021. He has already been in power for 32 years and now could become one of the longest serving leaders in Africa. The corrupt political systems in Africa have helped Museveni stay in power for as long as he has. In 2016 the opposition party had little to know media coverage so they weren’t able to have as strong of a campaign because of the internal sabotage. We have seen corruption in multiple African political elections such as in Kenya and Liberia. The fact that the citizens are now speaking their minds and care about the current situation symbolize that Africa is ready for a change. In Kenya which is one of the more progressive countries in Africa want to modernize and with that you need a stable government. We see a similar situation in Uganda where the current president doesn’t want to leave the power he has because in these countries if you aren’t at the top of the totem pole then you can have a hard life. Since he has been accustomed to this way of life for so long human greed has started to take over and he wants even more fame and more power. Human greed is the downfall of many leaders because they do not know when to stop and it causes more problems for their country in a way that it creates a stronger division between the people and its leaders. When the leaders of a country are so far removed from the current situation of their own country’s society then they have no way of leading and knowing whats best for its people. It also provides suspicion and distrust between the government officials and the normal citizens because they are so different they have no common ground to establish that trust and credibility.
