South Sudan is being accused of war crimes, interviews with South Sudan citizens talk about how the South Sudan government are systematically burning down houses and killing people. There is a peace deal being made between the South Sudan government and the rebels. In the world’s youngest country there is a civil war, (2013-present) that highlights the instability of the area. Uganda has sent troops to aid the rebels in South Sudan. Even with a peace deal being made the war wages on. During the war half of South Sudan’s population is
in need of food aid to survive. Both sides have been accused of the unprovoked killing of innocent people and rape. This is horrible because the citizens can’t trust either side to protect them unless something changes. Civil wars and rebellions seem tone commonplace in Africa most likely due to the artificially placed borders they started out with. With the horrible humanitarian situation, I’m very surprised that NGO’s such as there’s cross or other such aid groups aren’t helping with the abysmal humanitarian situation of South Sudan. With the reports of rampant war crimes by both sides, many aid organizations are being discouraged from going to prevent a repeat of what happened in Rowanda. South Sudan’s situation seems to be only getting worse and worse, and with seldom reason to believe it will be getting better soon maybe South Sudan will get lucky and have the peace deal pan out, or South Sudan might end up splitting into two country’s and they can finally put an end to the constant war happening in the area. But with Uganda sending troops to aid the rebels (as mentioned earlier) maybe the rebel group is being influenced by the Ugandan government to take over the country instead of going for a peace deal or splitting up into 2 countries. Other countries might also try to influence the war.
