The article about the working women in Kenya is so inspiring and to me because there are so many women suffering under the thumb of the patriarchy across the world and as a feminist, lifting up other women who have it worse than I do and watching them succeed is so important to me.
The Chama Wezadada is really cool because it allows them to manage their money and help each other without the support of their husbands, which in developing countries is uncommon because it’s so difficult for women to be independent and hold jobs. I do wonder how they get the money for loans and whatnot, if it’s just money from other women in the group or if its in connection with a bank? It’s something I’ll be looking into more in the future.
The story of the arrests in Ghana for the killing of the undercover journalist was fascinating, mainly because it wasn’t that the reporter was badmouthing the government or the citizens, just one guy who holds a high position in FIFA. I don’t want to say it’s amusing because this man died for it, but it kind of is amusing. FIFA is such a huge part of the culture in Ghana that when anyone opposes it, it’s wildly out of favor. I’ll be interested just what kind of a sentence the killers receive for their crime.
