Britain was told, by the World Court, that they will no longer be able to have control of the Chagos Islands, in the Indian Ocean. A reason for this was that Britain had forced the population out in order to make room for a United States air base in the 1970’s. They moved 2,000 people to the Island of Mauritius and Seychelles in order to have the air base in the largest island, Diego Garcia. “Britain had acted unlawfully in the decolonization process and should relinquish control over the islands,” said the United Nations. The Mauritian Prime Minister called it a historic moment for the Mauritius people, including the Chagossians who were unconscionably removed from their homeland and prevented from returning for the last half century. Philippe Sands, a member of the Mauritius legal team at the ICJ, said the next step is for Britain and Mauritius to sit down and work out a handover.
Kenya:
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) arrested two suspects alleged to have defrauded ambassador Hadi Farajvand. It was unknown how much money, but the two suspects introduced themselves as senior Interior ministry officials. Security sources think that the two Iranian nationals are a part of the Quds Force — an elite unit of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard. This Force carries out covert foreign missions, including terror attacks. These two said that they had come to the country as tourists when they were arrested, but they were linked to a lethal explosive, RDX, and were accused of planning a terror attack. Sources say that the ambassador had been looking for high-level contacts in government who could help him to illegally secure the release of Mr Mohammed and Mr Mousavi and get them out of Kenya. Detectives say that Mr. Farajvand, Ambassador of Kenya, contacted government officials to enquire about the two individuals he had been dealing with.
