This article discusses how Senegal’s Macky Sall has just started his second term as Senegal’s President. Macky Sall used optimism as a tool in his inauguration speech, saying that economically Senegal is on the come up. A main talking point in his speech was Senegal’s plan to enter the hydrocarbons sector in 2021-22 because of their two new oil and gas developments.
I believe Sall is really winning over the population of Senegal because of his promises to help the youth who are seeking employment, which seems to be reasonable because of the new oil and gas developments which will open up a lot of jobs. Another promise he made in his speech was a promise to help aid all women and girls through certain policies, and provide better housing.
Perhaps the most important part of this election is that the selection of Sall as president has sidelined the Socialist and the Senegalese Democratic Party which have had political power over Senegal ever since they separated from France in 1960.
