This article talks about how there was a revolt sort of attack from the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), on the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). This attack apparently came months after the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Ugandan troops had launched a joint operation against the Allied Democratic forces, which has been killing civilians in the region since 2013. The Allied Democratic Forces are like any group seeking control over territory and mineral resources in the region and the United Nations has not found any research evidence against them. Ugandan forces have helped with this issue by launching air and artillery raids in the Democratic Republic of Congo in order to intervene.
This article is important because it reveals two important countries interactions with one another. It just so happens to be another country that wants to have an area for their own benefit and want to see if they can test their limits. However, the Allied Democratic Forces need to be aware of what they may be getting into if the Democratic Republic of Congo does indeed have Uganda and maybe more allying with them. This shows that the Democratic Republic of Congo is not willing to just give up at the instance of a threat, but willing to fight and gain allies to help them fight this battle that has been ongoing.
This relates to what we talk in class through the topic of the United Nations. The United Nations has apparently been looking for the culprit or any evidence behind this group that is trying to invade and killing civilians, but they have not been able to. This is something they will most likely continue to come together and work on as it is an unresolved problem that could turn into something larger and be a detriment to more than just South Africa.
