This article talks about how there former president, Robert Mugabe, launched land reforms back in the two thousands forcibly removing white farmers and giving their land back to the black citizens. This was supposed to redress the British colonial legacies however it ended up being a case where a lot of Mugabe’s closest allies ended up getting more land for themselves. This has been solved however now there is a waiting list for the unused land for people who want to claim it and the list is very long. There are now chronic food shortages in Zimbabwe as there are not enough sustainable farms for food.

This article is important because it reveals an idea for a solution that lead to a bigger problem. They thought a huge problem was who was running the farms, rather than the farms themselves. The farms are now illy ran and have lead to food shortages. The overall well being of Zimbabwe should be put first over the people behind the farms. Hopefully this can be solved as they realize that they were better off with whoever can run the farm rather than who they want to run it.

This relates to what we talk about in class through the topic of a little of humans rights. There should not be a favoritism towards who they want to run the farms as long as the people are doing their job. If they are not being disobedient towards what Zimbabwe wants, there should be no reason to want them all to not run the farms any longer.
