An airstrike mission carried out by the Nigerian Airforce turned deadly after they had mistakenly fired missiles and bombs at civilians after they had mistaken community security guards for armed groups. Nigeria has been fighting with armed groups in the northwest region of its country. It is said that up to 20 people died as a result of this incident and many are being treated for injuries. Nigeria has been conducting these bombing missions carried out by the Nigerian air force as a result of extremists in the country who have tried to destabilize the country’s north. Although officials have said it’s going to be to be more careful with these missions to avoid civilian casualties, over 400 people have died since the raids started years ago.

The instability in the northern parts of Nigeria could turn into a major internal issue as it could cause a civil war with people being split. If the bombings continue to kill people many may change minds and turn against the current government to support the extremists. I think the government should be more careful as to where they bomb because hundreds of innocent people have been killed since the start of the bombings and they don’t seem to end anytime soon. This could have lasting impacts in the region as people will migrate to neighboring countries for refuge and Nigeria has a large population which could cause an immigration crisis.

Many NGO’s would likely step in to help support the people as well as IGOs like the UN to come to a solution to stop the deaths of many people in the region and cause an immigration crisis. The government and the extremists could come to a solution to get a ceasefire and stop fighting as it’s not only the lives of the fighters but also the innocent people’s lives. NGO’s like the Red Cross are going to step in to help the wounded and many areas are going to be cut off of food and they are going to step in and provide the necessities for life. The extremists are threatening the security of Nigeria as they’re trying to overthrow the government so it’s in their best interest to fight the extremists and eliminate the threat.
