This article expands on my previous and continues to talk a bit about South Sudan and its history with civil war and the current civil war. The main difference is that this article is an update to the previous, but states that Ugandan troops that were supposedly sent to South Sudan’s capital to help defend its government did not arrive. Uganda had previously stated that “We shall protect the entire territory of South Sudan like it was our own” and confirmed that troops were deployed without much detail, however, South Sudan’s Information Minister claimed the troops were not in Juba.

This article confuses me because I’m not sure what to make of the troops not being in Juba or even whether that is truthful because Uganda is saying that they were deployed there, but South Sudan is saying they aren’t there so either they didn’t make it for some reason which could’ve been rebel group interception or one of them is lying and I don’t fully understand why either would lie about it. If Uganda lied, then I think it would weaken the ties between the two countries. If the troops were deployed, but stopped by rebel groups or other allies of Machar, I expect that the ties will strengthen between the two countries because South Sudan could be compelled to help Uganda and their troops since they were on their way to help South Sudan.

I expect that Uganda and South Sudan will have a meeting or talks about what truly happened with the troops and how they are going to continue in this situation. I think Uganda will need to continually revisit their goal and purpose in this war. I think that South Sudan will continue to fight until real, lasting peace talks happen and their government becomes stable, which could be any number of years since the country has struggled ever since 2011. This article connects to class because it is dealing with multiple security threats with rebel groups, a civil war and many occurrences of armed conflict that has created hundreds of thousands of deaths.
