Russia is planning to open an Embassy in Liberia. This was announced at the First Ministerial Conference of the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum. Russia is doing this in order to spread its diplomatic footprint across Africa, and Liberia is eager to deepen its collaboration with Russia. They believe the partnerships will lead to shared prosperity. The Liberian representative expressed concerns with the ECOWAS, stating that conflict has become increasingly difficult to work through between member states. He called on international allies such as Russia for help supporting peace within ECOWAS and also announced Lieria’s candidacy for a non-permanent spot on the security council for the UN. Liberia states its relations with Russia are longstanding, dating back to the 1950s.

This is a very pressing matter with great importance to our global arena as now Russia will have a new embassy and foothold in Africa. If a war were to break out between us and Russia, they would have the aid of Liberia at the least and most likely several more countries in Africa. It could motivate the U.S. to develop stronger foreign relations with African countries, although most likely not much will come of this. That is because the U.S. is becoming more centralized and less globalized, leading us to not care too much about Russia’s new embassy. The only major implications of this embassy and stronger bond is the Russia Ukraine war, although not too much should change just because of the embassy.

Examining this issue using levels analysis reveals further insight. From a global level, we can see the current weak unipolar world that Russia would like to change to strong unipolar, with them as the strongest state actor. From an interstate level, we can see Russia doesn’t have great relationships with its neighboring countries and maybe wanted to develop new relationships. From a state level, we see that Russia needs to maintain its security and wants to do so by building an embassy in Liberia to have a hold on it. From an individual level, we see that Putin wants power and to be the supreme leader.
