Lakin’s Analysis Post #3

There have been a lot of issues in Brazil recently. They are dealing with major immigration issues due to other countries failing economies. However, I feel that these issues have been amplified ever since their new president, Jair Bolsonaro, was elected about a month ago. I don’t think that Jair Bolsonaro was the best fit for Brazil because of his reputation. There are so many scandals that have been revolved around him, and he was even stabbed by his own people at a campaign rally. Some of his views and ideas personally, I think are ridiculous. For example, he wanted to limit the amount of environmental laws on the sacred Amazon rainforest. Recently, he has sparked tension with Cuba. Cuba had doctors and health service stationed in Brazil. Cuba has doctors stationed in 60 other countries in different parts of the world as revenue for Cuba. Cuban government takes a portion of what the doctors make. These doctors are making good money by going to countries that are struggling and helping them. The article stated that Bolsonaro had said that the Cuban doctors were being used as “slave labor” due to the Cuban government, taking 75% of their salaries. He also said Cuban doctors were not qualified and would have to take certain exams to practice in Brazil. He then stated that this program could only be  continued if they got their full pay and were even allowed to bring their families from Cuba. This statement caused thousands of Cuban doctors to leave Brazil. I don’t know whether Bolsonaro said this because he felt bad that the Cuban government was taking the doctor’s money, or because he felt that Brazil was being pitied and he didn’t like it. Overall, I’m not 100% sure why Bolsonaro got rid of the doctors, because now he is struggling to  find more doctors since they lost so many. He’s only hurting himself in his country because so many people relied on this medical care. I can see where Bolsonaro was coming from, but the same time I don’t know why you would want to get rid of something that’s helping you. These Cuban doctors were going to places Brazilian doctors didn’t want to go and helping people they didn’t want to help.
