Nicolas Maduro has been sworn in as president of Venezuela, taking power for six more years amid an economic crisis that has caused an outpouring of migrants from the country. The socialist successor to Hugo Chavez won re-election to a second term last May, in a contest that was denounced as a sham by the United States, Canada and a dozen Latin American nations. Maduro was sworn in by the nation’s supreme court, The Associated Press reports, cheered on by officials and flag-waving children. Outside the court’s chambers, a noticeable increase in security presence marked the quiet streets of Caracas early on morning of the inauguration. The Trump administration imposed sanctions on former Venezuelan government officials earlier in the week, citing corruption in Maduro’s administration. Last year the U.S. sanctioned Venezuela’s gold sector, which Maduro has turned to for revenue as oil production has fallen.

The past events in Venezuela have us concerned in the US. What will they do without the support from major countries around them. Will they finally start figuring out the problem and bringing their economy back. Now that mexico is getting most of the immigrants what will they do about the issue. This amount of people might start a conflict in latin and central america. Venezuela needs to start finding a leader who is capable of benefiting their country. The same thing is going on in sub-saharan africa. Leaders are more concerned about themselves and not their people. The US has a doctrine dedicated to the people and these other countries don’t. I think Venezuela needs to get their government under control before this leads to a heavier conflict. The US and mexico can’t get involved with these countries. Even though the us is a hegemon we can’t get involved with every corrupt government. Some countries will learn to crumble before growing for their people.
