Since Venezuela’s president Nicolas Maduro was elected and opposition leader Juan Guiado has refused to concede, the country has been in a constant state of conflict between the people and the Maduro supporting military. The people of Venezuela almost unanimously back Juan Guado, But Maduro is holding onto power by using the military to suppress and outcries. Guaido has called for Maduro to resign in order to get the country back on its feet. Thousands of people are currently starving to death and are lacking medical care. Maduro has placed trailers on the border with Colombia so that there is not way that aid can come in. Maduro has attempted to make The United States of America look evil and has stated in many speeches that if aid is accepted from the United States, it would all be an attempt to create a coup d’etat.

The European Union has stated that they will not be sending any aid to Venezuela because of the threats by Maduro. They have also stopped purchasing oil that comes from Venezuela. They have come with a hands off approach while The United States vice president Mike Pence has states that he thinks it is time to intervene in the nation. The US has been flying many more reconnaissance flights over international airspace off the coast of Venezuela in order to gather classified information about Maduro’s government. The hopes have been to intercept communication and to track weapons movement to have knowledge of possible military action against citizens or against other nations. Juan Guiado has plans to meet with Mike Pence in Bogata to discuss possible action. They will also discuss how to stop possible protests and riots on the Columbia-Venezuela border that have resulted in 300 casualties.
