Last week in Brazil, the supreme court surprisingly ruled to allow former President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva to have the ability to run for office again in the 2022 Presidential election. Lula, who is a leftiest politician from the workers party, has not yet made an official statement regarding his possible relelection to try and obtain the office that once was his. Lula did make an address to the nation on Wednsday however. He stated that the anti-corruption scheme, which is what he was convicted for in the first place, was the biggest judicial lie, told in 500 years of Brazillian history. Although the supreme court has already made a decision, legal experts beleive that it can still be reversed and lots of questions are still being asked about what the future holds for Brazil. There are 4 chargers that Lula is being charged with, two of which have been dropped. For the other two cases however they are still pending judgment.

This is a really good example of why Brazil’s government is always fluctuating and is unstable from a politician view. They seem to have a lot of different leadership issues. Due to that fact I believe their government should focus more on the credibility of their office holders because it is going to take a diligent leader who can both battle a pandemic and a corrupt government.

From an international relations standpoint, the diplomatic partnerships will go down because with constant change in the office will make it difficult for them. From an economic level it’s the same thing, due to the constant change in office it’s hard for a federal government to economically succeed and increase trade deals with an unstable group of people who are in and out pretty often.
