In 2021, Latin America will begin and intense electoral process that could provide some big changes to the region. These changes will hopefully fight against and provide an outlook for the Coronavirus pandemic. The countries that will hold elections this year are Ecuador in February, Peru in April, Honduras in November and Chile in November. Estimates in a sharp drop in GDP ranging from 7.2% to 9.4% would produce a large crisis making this election very important. The countries face possibility of losing a whole decade if the voters use their vote towards candidates with easy solutions, this being because voting for that candidate would bring instability and authoritarian government.

These elections are very important for these countries because this is their chance to either grow or fall coming out of the pandemic. Electing the wrong leaders could lead to a drop in economic stability, poor handling of the coronavirus/ vaccinations, retaliation against government and their choices, etc. Every country has been hit by the pandemic and it’s hit pretty hard. But now with vaccinations underway everyday, countries are starting to open back up again and starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. If these four countries want to rebuild properly and get themselves back on their feet with other countries, they must take this election seriously.

There is a power factor to these elections also. We talked a while ago in class about the top factors of power and on the list was GDP. In the articul it said the GDP is estimated to drop somewhere between 7.2% and 9.4%. If these countries elect a candidate that ends up not being the best choice in regards to their economic future, they could lose a large portion of their economic power and be left in the dust by surrounding countries rising back up.
