Two Venezuelan soldiers were killed by a land mine along the Colombian border. This incident also left nine Venezuelan soldiers injured. Venezuela was along the border in order to confront armed groups that have caused massive shifts in civilian population. Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino Lopez says that Venezuela will defend against these suspicious groups, while also maintaining human rights. However, some refugees that have fled the area have told the press that the Venezuelan groups have burned homes and killed civilians, which goes directly against what the Defense Minister said. Venezuela has mentioned that they are investigating these accusations. Rights groups from both sides have called on the UN to address these humanitarian issues.

This article features a more-hostile issue between the border of Venezuela and Colombia. Many violent events have already passed regarding the matter. If the issue remains unresolved, these violent series of events could turn into an armed conflict or a war, which would affect the area regionally. Another assumption based off of these events is that there is most likely to be an increase in migration away from these two countries because of the amount of violence. This article is important because it informs the people of the dangerous situations situated along the border.

As stated in class, the border between two countries is more likely to contain conflict for the following reasons; the cultural mixing (although they speak the same language), and the naturally occurring close proximity to each other. Terrorist groups are also more likely to be seen along borders, where cultures and beliefs waiver and mix. The UN has been called to the situation, and with their power they will try and best determine the next steps in the situation.
