Two United States citizens who were jailed in Venezuela were released in what seems to be a good gesture towards the Biden administration. Not only did this delegation bring home these two Americans but they also had discussions of possibly easing oil sanctions on OPEC member Venezuela. Talks with Maduro who is a longtime enemy of the United States only happened in efforts to influence Venezuela to lessen their relations with Russia. The Biden administration did receive some negativity after their talks with Maduro because Venezuela has sanctions imposed on them for Human rights violations.

In my opinion I think that this is a good thing for not only Venezuela but the United States as well. Obviously it is great that two U.S. citizens were freed but this could also bring new relations between the United States and Venezuela. I think that the only bad thing that could come out of this is a little hate on the Biden administration if they were to decrease their imposed sanctions but there is the obvious good side of it that in that Venezuela has one of the world’s largest oil reserves and with everything going on in Russia this could be good for us.

This all relates to what we have talked about in class because this article is talking about two countries and their relationship. One of the key takeaways to this article and what we have talked about in class is the sanctions that have been imposed on Venezuela and how they are affecting oil supplies. This article also talks about what is going on in Russia and how possibly Venezuela can fill a supply gap due to the United States sanctions imposed on Russia and us not buying oil from them.
