One of the top Paraguayan anti-mafia prosecutors has been killed in Columbia. Marcelo Pecci, one of the most successful prosecutors in Paraguay known for several high profile anti-mafia and anti-drug cases, was killed on a beach while vacationing in Columbia. Officials have said this is a strange occurrence, as he had not previously received any threats.

This is important because Pecci was one of the most successful Prosecutors in Paraguay fighting against organized crime and the drug industry. His death could seriously impact efforts to reduce corruption and the drug industry in Paraguay. In addition, since he was killed in Columbia, this may also strain relations between the Paraguayan and Colombian governments.

This story relates to this class because a relatively high level Paraguayan national was killed in Columbia, both of which are sovereign states. This event may cause diplomatic relations to strain due to the importance of the man who was killed.
