Argentina’s Lower House Passes Bill to Reduce Taxes on Wealthy

Argentina’s lower house on September 19th passed a government-backed bill that has lowered taxes on their higher income earners. By doing this the government would lose about 1 trillion pesos ($2.8 billion USD). Experts believe that they are doing this to ease pressure on key voters during their inflation crisis. If this bill were to become a law 800,000 people in the country would have their taxes cut. Other lawmakers disagreed with this move believing that it is done to benefit Massa’s campaign in this October election. The candidate leading the polls said “They had four years to stop stealing from workers and they roll this out in the middle of a campaign”.

I believe that this decision is incredibly unjust because it is being done just now to win votes in a campaign and extremely corrupt because of this timing. The nation of Argentina has been dealing with a skyrocketing inflation crisis with it being estimated at 169.3% by the end of the year. This could have lasting effects on the country making its system awful with politicians not wanting to fix problems, but do just enough to get reelected for their next term. But I believe this is very common, not just in Argentina but throughout the world. We need politicians not to do things to be liked and reelected. We need them to fix major problems in their countries the right way.

This connects to our class with state actors and internal affairs. Argentia needs a better person to conduct their policies inside the country. Because of Sergio Massathe the Minister of Economy the people of Argentina have been suffering and still are besides the middle and lower class. A way that they can try to solve this inflation crisis is by having better internal policies. I’m not sure exactly how they can do this but one of the ways the people of Argentina can do this is by electing better officials to fix their problems. This process can only be done by voting at all levels of the government.
