Gang Boss Says Haiti’s Exiled Prime Minister Should Fight or Quit.

Ariel Henry, the absent Prime Minister who has looked the other way through all of this violence, the gang boss, continues to mention the country will be plunged into civil war unless the leader steps down and passes that power onto those who may not be capable. Haiti is in a state of chaos; over the past six days, thousands of inmates have been released from prison, as well as gangs storming and taking control over certain parts of the capitol. There is no one power in control at the moment, and airports and other public transport have become far, and few between; almost all flights have been canceled due to impending attacks from other violent groups. Said gang boss Jimmy Cherizeir. “ If Ariel Henry doesn’t resign, if the international community continues to support him, we’ll be heading straight for a civil war that will lead to genocide.”

United States officials say that the Prime Minister was not pressured to leave the state, although they want him to craft a plan to replace the current government and implement a democracy. The government at the moment is practically non-existent, the people have no answers, and there is just an increase in violence. The lasting impact on this country could be detrimental; this population has no guidance or form of government in place to keep gangs and violence in check. The other big fear is the sense of authority; police forces in the country are close to backing out and giving up. Without these forces, there is no sense of control, and taking back this control will be a long and challenging process.

Since the start of this gang rebellion, the Prime Minister has been very quiet as he had “important business” in Kenya. He had attempted to make his way back to Haiti. However, on his journey home, they were not given clearance to land to infer the reason for the continued violence and threats, and these gangs are probably the most powerful at the moment. On Wednesday, the UN Security Council is coming together to discuss the current crisis in Haiti and how to proceed, considering the already urgent humanitarian crisis leaving almost half of the population to acute hunger. While the United States continues efforts to maintain the peace, speaking to both the government and the supposed gangs causing the violence, they say to put the people of Haiti first and put a stop to the violence.
