House Speaker Mike Johnson is in talks with the White House about creating more wartime aid for Ukraine and Israel. Mike Johnson is aiming to craft a package that addresses GOP concerns, being different from the Senate’s $95 billion foreign security proposal. Mike Johnson’s delay in advancing aid for Ukraine reflects the current political landscape, with pressure coming from all sides during GOP internal divisions and upcoming presidential race. His discussions with former President Trump highlight the scale of the issue, as Trump’s support could sway opinions. Mike Johnson faces resistance from House Democrats, pushing for a vote on the Senate package. The outcome remains uncertain, with the parties arguing over the need for the united states to control other parts of the world.

The debate over aid packages to warring countries has become an increasing debate in the United States since the start of the Ukraine-Russian war. The democrats argue that it is the United States job as global hegemon to keep peace, as well as arguing it is the morally right thing to do. The republicans however think that it is not the United states place to be policing other parts of the world, and that it is not worth United States money and resources to defend another country on the other side of the world. This debate is affecting United States politics and could play a significant role in the upcoming elections.

In international relations class, we have talked about how the United States serves as the global hegemon, and how the idea of it is becoming outdated. The United States would have a much more advantageous position by keeping to themselves and using their allies to keep the other countries in check. I believe that the threat of United States intervention could be at the same level of control as active United States monitoring. I predict that if the republicans win the presidential reelection, the United States will take more of a backseat role in the global arena, allowing for the world to figure out how to operate on it’s own.
