Famous rapper Diddy (Sean Combs), had his LA and Miami properties investigated/raided by The Department of Homeland Security. The reasons for the raids are unknown as officials did not say at the time. Since, two law enforcement officials told the Associated Press the raids were a part of an ongoing sex trafficking investigation. Diddy has also had numerous lawsuits filed against him from alleged victims of sexual abuse and misconduct. Diddy has not been detained once but still has cooperated with the authorities to help clear his name of the situation. Diddy’s lawyer scrutinized the raids and described them as  “gross overuse of military-level force”.

The main influence this story will have will deal with the media and the people. As the media releases reports and information on the situation (tmz video of aftermath), the people will be more likely to spread their word to the public. Such as the Metoo movement, more victims of alleged cases against Diddy will come out and talk against him. Cancel culture is a popular pop culture thing from the past few years where people “cancel” a famous person for the wrongs they have done resulting in losing fame, job opportunities, and assets. If this were to happen, Diddy would lose fans (which make up his income) and hurt his reputation (forcing him to change his lifestyle).

Based on what we have learned in class, this news report fits best with organized crime. Organized crime are criminal activities that are planned out on a large scale by a large group. Cartels and mafias would be an example, however in this scenario, Diddy and whoever he is working with would be involved with sex trafficking.
