Canada, Mexico, and China now respond to Trump’s tariff threats. Which to no one’s surprise they are not quite happy about it. 75% of Canada’s exports go to the US, so gaining a 25% tariff on their exports are not exactly something they are happy about. They were also compared to mexico when it came to immigration which only caused more offense. Where as Mexico has recognized the illegal immigration going to America and they have been attempting to combat that. In fact they even claim to say that there as been improvement compared to the past. Not mentioned Mexico understands that this is to promote American businesses and combat illegal immigration and the smuggling of drugs. But mexico really believes that this absolutely won’t solve anything. They even mention that a lot of car parts that are needed to make cars are imported from Mexico, so you would actually be ruining a lot of motor car shops in america. Where as China denies any and all claims of china allows chemicals used in manufacture of illegal drugs to be smuggled into the US. All three of these countries can agree that these tariffs won’t just be damaging to them but also to the US. Canada even states,”these proposed tariffs could be devastating to workers and jobs in both Canada and the US.”
I completely agree with what Mexico said about how this would ruin everyone’s economy. Of course the intention of these tariffs were to do our country good but in reality there are many bad consequences these tariffs could have. This could also ruin our relationship with Canada and Mexico, does this mean that we will have to grow as a country and try to ween off of the reliance of both the countries? And of course China would claim they don’t smuggle drugs into america, whether that is a lie or not, it is a heavy accusation to blame illegal drug consumption on another country. So where is our country headed?
Canada had claimed that this would be devastating to workers and jobs in both countries, so is that something that the people are realizing? I am finding that more and more people are regretting their vote towards Trump, and the outcome to this being one of those reasons. This year’s election, Trump had swept many latinos and african americans to vote for him. Races that he has at one point downgraded, but even left leaning latinos had voted for him. Why you may ask? One response was that they truly believed that this would be a good opportunity for their family.
I feel this relates to what we were talking about constructive theory. How many view Iran was as this terrible awful place that really oppressed women for years, and though some of that is true it is not at all as bad as America had made it out to be. I believe that this is also true for illegal immigration, it is still pretty bad but like Mexico said, they had been implementing laws and making tighter restrictions in order to combat it. So yes it is bad, but not as bad as before. So I do think that the people of our country think it is worse than it really is because of the false spread of misinformation, especially on social media.
