Zelenskiy urges speedy passage of Ukraine aid in US Senate, transfer of weapons

On Sunday April 21, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy was happy to see the passage of a U.S. Bill that gives Ukraine over $60 Billion in aid. He then later urged the United states to quickly turn this bill into law so the transfer of weapons can occur as quickly as possible. He thinks it would send a strong message to Russia and not be a “Second Afghanistan”. The weapons that are being supplied include long range guided missiles that the U.S gave previously in October of 2023. Right now congress is moving fast with the fairly broad bipartisan support in the house and Senate to pass bills in Ukraine aid.

This article is very interesting as if Ukraine continues to rely on America to win the war problems could arise especially with the upcoming election this fall. If we see Trump get elected The country would be interested to see whether trumps supports the mass amount of money we are sending to Ukraine, or will he stop sending as much money and artillery. It seems to be that Ukraine is starting to lose their grip on there once impenetrable line and without the amount of money from the U.S this war could flip upside down, I think that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy needs to realize that there has to be other ways to attain weaponry and money rather than begging the U.S for it every time there in need.

This relates to what we’ve been talking about in class when looking at things like International Security. Ukraine obviously feels threatened as there in a war with Russia and they are looking around for allies and friends to help out and give them the tools they need to win the war.
