America’s firm stance with Ukraine is being pushed to its limits as legislation regarding more funding to the Ukrainian military struggles to get passed in the Senate. The now 26-month long war has been copiously monitored by the US as Russia gains a stronger foothold into eastern Ukrainian territory, and President Zelenskyy is urging the US to pass the bill quicked so that their military can receive weapons and supplies. Moscow has boldly claimed that US support for Ukraine will foolishly turn Ukraine into another American failure like Afghanistan or Vietnam, and presidential candidate Donald Trump has consistently spoken against funding the war.

Our continued support for Ukraine goes to show how far the United States is willing to go for not only democracy, but for the downfall of Vladimir Putin. This topic is the subject of hot debate in the US, as many taxpayers are raising their eyes when they see that their taxes are going towards a war, and this issue will prove to be crucial in the upcoming presidential election, as Joe Biden and Donald Trump have perspectives on opposite sides of the spectrum. The bill is set to begin consideration in the Senate soon, but there is little chance of it not being passed there considering the fact that the Senate leans to Democrats and Democrats, for the most part, support aid to Ukraine.

Since February 2022, Russia has committed many war crimes including, but not limited to, attacking civilian centers like hospitals and schools. For this reason, Vladimir Putin is technically an international criminal that, if found outside of Russia, would have to be arrested by any country that has signed the charter of the International Criminal Court. This is one of the many reasons that countries have backed Ukraine instead of Russia.
