The United States brokered talks that will happen between Russia and Ukraine sometime in the future. Ukraine president Volodymyr Zelenskyy mentioned that if Abu Dhabi is not available because of the current conflict in the middle east then they will move it to either Switzerland or Turkey. President Zelenskyy has also made comments about how western nations have given no indication whether the delivery to Kyiv of vital air defense missiles will continue because of the new attraction and focus on the situation in Iran in the middle east.
Knowing what we’ve seen so far in the Russia Ukraine war I don’t believe that this meeting will be the end or at least the beginning to the end at all. Although opposing powers have slowly been placing more pressure on Russia to end this war there still isn’t simply enough pressure being added for Russia to concede to a country they believe is rightfully theirs. What I believe will happen is there will be some sort of cease fire agreement that will slowly be broken under the table by both sides until this meeting didn’t matter at all.
Ukraine seems to be the most involved in this situation with the addition of their worry about the end of western aid because of the situation in Iran they should use this meeting as a way to force American diplomats to answer their questions about whether their national focus has fully changed. Because if so that could completely change the trajectory of this wars length and how Ukraine acts towards the Americans and western nations if Ukraine ends up still around in the aftermath of this conflict.
This situation uses the idea of interdependence as Russia and Ukraine are attempting to meet together peacefully to solve conflict where interdependence is all about the relationships between two stakeholders. America is also shown using legitimacy as President Donald Trump and the others who proposed this meeting will use this as a success story to use in their campaigns with midterms coming up.
