The United States Treasury Department decided to allow India to import Russian Oil for only a month after taking part of the boycott against purchasing oil from Russia. This measure was created to aid in easing the upward rise of oil prices as when you get rid of a global supply of crude oil, the demand rises which means higher prices. The recently started Israeli-American conflict in Iran has closed movements of tankers in the Strait of Hormuz, meaning that there are floating tankers that still have their drums of oil still offerable. The United States has allowed India to only purchase from these tankers as they believe that the profit from only purchasing from those ships won’t be enough for a sufficient increase.
I believe that this move, if it does anything, will slightly benefit America as India will become a closer ally because of our allowance for them to break their sanction to benefit their nation. I don’t believe this will help Russia at all though because like the political expert said, the amount of profit that Russia will gain from this won’t be enough to make any sort of impact. Theoretically this should also help the people of America as when the demand of oil decreases so will the price and so will the gas prices that have already been raised as an issue because of the growing conflict in the oil heavy area of the middle east.
India must find another sustainable way to find oil if they’re going to continue to express a need for it, for sanctions to work everyone needs to be playing the same part and if one country decides that they are going to break it but only for a little bit, that still reduces the magnitude of the sanction to the point where it becomes mute in impact. Although India isn’t directly expressing the interest of sanctioning Russia it would still most likely be in their best interest for the Ukraine Russia war to end. America must hold India accountable if they want the Ukraine Russia war to end as quickly as President Trump says.
