Russia and Ukraine have both agreed to a three day pause in bombing each others capitals cities to make room for peace talks. This temporary break happened because US negotiators Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner just arrived in Moscow to try to find a way to end the war. After meeting with Russian officials, the US team plans to head to Kyiv to keep discussions going. The news also says that while the physical bombs have stopped for a few days, Russia is still currently using cyber threats to mess with foreign elections. however, many international foreign policy experts are pretty skeptical of this agreement, pointing out that previous ceasefires have rarely lasted

This situation is important because it shows a rare moment where both sides are actually stepping back to give diplomacy a chance. Even a short pause in the fighting proves that international pressure can work and that fighting is still an option. It tells us that while the war is far from over, there is a serious push behind the scenes to find a political way out. Having high profile US negotiators step in highlights just how much this conflict impacts the rest of the world and shows that major global players want to see it resolved. Ultimately this could reopen the door ffr real diplomatic talks, though anyone watching knows just how easily these ceasefires can fall apart.

This pause is a strategic move, but everyone is looking at it differently. Russia is likely using the break to show they are open to talking, which helps them a lot internationally giving them room to negotiate without looking weak. Meanwhile, the US side of things, Witkoff and Kushner, will most likely use this window to push for a long- term ceasefire and pitch their own peace proposals while they have everyone’s attention. As for ukraine, they will take a break from the bombing, but they aren’t letting their guard down- they will keep demanding a full Russian withdrawal while using these few days to patch up there defenses.

Both Russia and the United States are prime examples of powerful state actors using their weight to try and shift global events. By pausing the strikes to talk, they are putting diplomacy into action which means they are trying to manage a massive crisis through peaceful communication rather than fighting. This conflict centers on Ukraine’s fight to protect its sovereignty and independence from foreign invasion. While the war itself is a reminder of how violent global conflicts can get, these negotiations show exactly why international relations matter so much when trying to get towards an agreement and most importantly peace.

This happened a few days ago so I’m sure there’s new information on this topic.
