Turkey is taking heavy criticism from all over the world but mainly The United States and The european union over them trying to ban the HDP which is the peoples democratic party. Turkeys reasoning behind this is that the party has been allegedly linked to Kurdish fighters. This attempted ban has been the culmination of a year long crackdown of the 3rd biggest party in parliament. The article says that turkey has a history of banning parties especially pro-kurdish parties. The US department of state said, “dissolving the HDP undermined democracy in Turkey…. monitoring the initiation of efforts to dissolve the People’s Democratic Party, a decision that would unduly subvert the will of Turkish voters, further undermine democracy in Turkey, and deny millions of Turkish citizens their chosen representation.” The president of the nationalist far right party says that the HDP is a front for a terrorist organization and that they have a sense of duty to ban the HDP.
This is very important because the parliament of turkey is trying to ban an entire party of democracy. That’s like the democrats or republicans trying to ban each other because they think the other is a terrorist organization. That is crazy. in banning a party like this you will be illuminating millions of peoples choice in party. all those members of that party are now unrepresented and have no party looking out for their want and needs. I think that the main reason that the turkish parliament is trying to ban this party is the fact that kurdish people use this party to voice their ideas and opinions. If this goes through the region could go through a civil war or uprising. in 1984 the pkk fought a revolution and it is estimated that 40,000 people died. if things continue like this i can see this happening again.
The connection to class is that internal philosophies where in this country the minority of kurdish people are looked down on. and now that they have a platform to voice their opinions the majority does not like that idea and wants to get rid of the party all together.
