In an article that I found on Pakistan, it talks about a court case for a woman who was put on death row for making negative comments after being refused drinking water because of her religion. She was bashing the Islamic religion which is illegal in Pakistan without freedom of speech. Bibi, the woman on death row is a Christian, which is almost dangerous in a country like Pakistan because the majority of Pakistanis are Muslim. She is being charged for blasphemy which will be taken to the Supreme Court this week. The governor of a province in Pakistan came to Bibi’s defense, but was assassinated soon after because of his decision to defend her. This court case is a very controversial topic in Pakistan because it is about their state religion an someone who disrespected that. The chief of the Tehreek-e-Labbaik said, “We will not tolerate an attack on the sanctity of our prophet”. Reading this article makes me very grateful to live in a country with freedom of religion and freedom of speech. Americans are allowed to believe whatever they choose and have their own opinions and speak their minds about their beliefs. Not many countries give their citizens this much freedom, such as Pakistan. I think that putting Bibi on death row is extreme for just talking about a religion. I understand why Pakistanis are so upset because they are extreme Muslims and do not agree with Christian beliefs. It has been so polarizing because the people who defend her are killed for defending her. Hopefully Bibi will be released from death row and be able to live in another country that she is able to believe what she wants and be able to speak her mind without any punishment. She should live in America because American citizens have freedom of speech to be able to disagree or agree openly with issues such as religion.
