Summary: There was a ship carrying oil in the Gulf of Oman that got caught amid a storm. The article states “Torrential rains have battered the Strait of Hormuz, Oman and the United Arab Emirates since Monday, and floods killed at least 18 people in Oman and three in Iran.” The sailors remained in a relatively good position though 5 people needed medical attention. The ship was registered under the Cook Island and was reported to be sinking about 30 miles off the southern coast of one of Irans provinces.

analysis: This just captures the ability of countries to work together and I think that if Iran had a different reaction to the sinking boat things could have gone south. If the ship was registered as a threat and they instead were to bomb or attack it in any sort of way it would cause issues amongst the two countries…especially since it was in the Gulf of Oman.

Relation to class: The relationship between Iran and Sri Lanka began in Islamabad. They both created a diplomatic relationship with each other. This relates to class by Iran helping the Sri Lankan sailors as the ship with resources began to sink, they assisted in helping those that required medical attention too. Overall this strengthened the relationship between the two as it showed that Iran would be willing to assist Sri Lanka
