The Azerbaijani government has made the reaching of religion mandatory to avoid radicalism in the country. The main religion that the students at this university would be the teachings of Islam however, other religions would be taught if certain students requested to learn about them. 97% of Azerbaijanians identify as Muslim however, few of them rarely practice it. This new approach in teaching is important because it allows people who don’t know a lot about certain religions to be able to expand upon that subject. Many people who live in Azerbaijan are very skeptical about this idea. This is the case because some don’t feel it should be a mandatory subject and that the students should be allowed to study any subject they want. However, what most don’t realize is that there is no pressure to start believing in the certain religions but being able to understand and learn where they came from so that these students may be able to travel to different places in the world and understand what the main religion is of the country that they are in. This is to avoid offending and being able to communicate with other people a lot better.
