This article talks about how the Pakistan have had a strategic plan for the ongoing warfare and other events going on through time and how other countries have gotten involved or withdrawn from the plan, such as the United States. Apparently, the United States withdrew their presence from the situation in 1989 due to the fact that they misread Pakistan’s strategic intent. Additionally, the US policy had consistently pursued in Pakistan without tackling “strategic realties”. Their approach towards Pakistan failed for three main reasons: 1)It failed to recognize Pakistan’s desire to bring the Taliban back to power in Afghanistan. 2)It did not assess the creation of Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan, and 3)it overlooked the influence of a small group ideologically-committed generals.

This article is important because it shows the United States ideals and how it differed from Pakistan’s in their situation. Pakistan obviously wanted something more in the moment than the United States was willing to help them achieve, which is what caused the withdrawal. This just shows that their is built up tension between the US and regions like Pakistan and there isn’t really anything being done about it it’s kind of just known that we don’t see eye to eye on a lot of situations and it’s like an agree to disagree type situation.

This relates to our class because we talk a lot about how countries pose threats to one another. In our world, there are a lot of countries, that don’t agree on things and don’t really talk or get along with one another. Nothing really happens often between those countries, but they are threats. They have that intimidation factor where if one country were to do something they would fire back and so would countries that are part of their alliances and what not.
