The five divisionaries in India will soon begin voting for the 2022 election. This high-stakes election that experts say is “likely to determine the political direction of the world’s largest democracy.” There are 180 million voters of India’s astounding 1.38 billion population who are set to vote for this extremely important election. The two parties are the BJP which is the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Samajwadi which is a socialist leaning party. Currently the BJP holds four of the five divisions of India but have recently been proved to be a toss up for the upcoming election. The election will follow into the decisions that are needed to solve the many problems in India.
India and their process of electing people has always been an interest to me because I always knew it was different and haven’t been able to learn about it. Now that I know a little more about it, it reminds me of the United States if there were only five states and those five states had much more people in them. Samajwadi being a part of a socialist party could potentially be bad from the United States perspective because it is leading further away from a democracy. The BJP party on the other hand seems to have a history of supporting the Americans and if they were elected would be more beneficial for America. But, a socialist party may be able to help India’s extreme economic problems and could potentially be vital for their country.
This relates to class because it is part of comparative government. Learning about another country’s government is vital for understanding that country’s actions and why they made the decisions that they have made. It is also important because it could potentially lead into a worse relationship between their ally the United States if they were to become a more socialist party, which leans more into International relations.
