Over the weekend, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said “now is the moment of truth” to determine whether Iran’s 2015 nuclear deal with world powers can be salvaged. Iranian officials say its up to the western countries to show flexibility and that its now in their hands. Although The United States withdrew from the deal in 2018, President Joe Biden has signaled that he wants to rejoin. The US has imposed heavy sanctions on Iran, Tehran responded by increasing the purity and amount of uranium it enriches. Which is in breach of the accord.

This article is important because of how dangerous nuclear warfare is. We can see multiple countries coming together to try and satisfy Iran into joining a nuclear deal. This deal would benefit Iran tremendously and allow the rest of the world to stop worrying about Irans nuclear capabilities. Iran is keeping its foot down on what they want out of the deal claiming that the western countries “arent showing any flexibility”. I think that this nuclear deal is ridiculous but necessary. Giving someone what they want because they are threatening you with something else is the definition of bullying. Unfortunately, Iran has the capability to light the whole world on fire. Western countries are now obligated to satisfy their leaders.

This relates directly to International Relations class because of how many countries are working together to keep Iran at bay. The diplomacy between other countries is what allows them to work together for a greater good that will benefit both parties involved. The countries involved have used a Liberal approach when dealing with Iran by working together to minimize conflict. Both sides have said that its the others turn to respond, creating an unbreakable ego between the leaders. Whoever “gives in” may appear weak to their people.
