The Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Supervision or Rosselkhoznadzor in Russia and the Eurasian Economic Union or UAEU, have been causing a great deal of issues for Kyrgyzstan and their trade into Russia. There’s a large issue with dairy products and their lack of documentation and upkeeping of cows’ health that could possibly present a medical threat to Russian consumers of the products. The UAEU, which is meant to represent the whole region, but is mainly Russian controlled, has also declared issues of undocumented trade, including 21 tons of produce from Kyrgyzstan. These recent issues have fueled Kyrgyzstan frustrations with Russia, Kyrgyzstan was expecting greater opportunities from joining the Union. Kyrgyzstan has also considered removing their Cyrillic alphabet and reducing Russian influence in their country. Ultimately however Russia will always be a vital part of Kyrgyzstan’s economy and culture, which they are well aware of.

Russian influence has been decreasing steadily since the fall of the Soviet Union, from losing territory, to losing alliances, Russia has been experiencing a series of political blunders. There have been a number of attempts from the country to increase their power, they attempted to join NATO, which failed, Russia has also attempted to invade Ukraine, this has shown varying success. While they annexed Crimea annexing the rest of the country has proved more difficult. The atrocities and failure in Ukraine has further illustrated globally the weakness of the country which has decreased popularity. Alliances like the UAEU are vital to the country for this reason, being on of its last attachments to any form of power.

In class we have discussed humanitarian rights and the concept of war crimes and war criminals. A large reason for Russia’s current predicament is the country committing hundreds of war crimes in Ukraine. Putin is now recognized internationally as a war criminal and cannot leave the country. Additionally, the only reason for the reclaiming of Ukraine is Russian pride. It is an important strategic spot for Russia but in the modern era it is extremely unlikely anybody will be invading Russia. For these reasons Russia has destroyed its global influence, and is now dropping down to the point that small Central Asian countries like Kyrgyzstan have pretty decent levels of sway on what Russia does.
